The app will be removed from the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Microsoft Store in February 2022. As a result, the OverDrive App is now facing retirement. With that in mind, OverDrive introduced a new app to borrow ebooks and audiobooks called Libby, which was inspired by library and user feedback and was designed to get people reading or listening to digital titles as quickly and seamlessly as possible. Technology continues to change though, as does how we use it. As a matter of fact, one statistic showed that every second, 12 ebooks were borrowed through OverDrive – and that stat was from 2016, so one can only imagine what it may have surged to amidst a global pandemic!
The service’s namesake app has been around since the early 2000s and has enabled borrowers to access millions of books.
